Police are appealing for information about a man who attempted to rob a dairy with a piece of timber about 7.20am this morning.

Detective Iain Chapman said a man entered Crazy Convenience on Cameron Rd near 11th Ave armed with a large piece of timber and began demanding money and cigarettes from the two men in the shop.

"He's then attacked one of them, hitting him with the piece of timber."

The man has been taken to hospital for monitoring.

The robber then left the store with nothing and is thought to have run off in a northerly direction through alleyways between 10th and 11th Avenues.

"He was last seen running down 11th Ave near the Mad Butcher," Mr Chapman said.

The incident was captured by CCTV cameras in the store.

The man is described as being of a skinny build, wearing a black balaclava, a large baggy camouflage jacket with a hood, black combat boots and blue skinny jeans which he was wearing low.

Mr Champan said Cameron Rd was very busy at that time of morning and is appealing for information and sightings of the man.
