A Mount Maunganui man accused of raping a 15-year-old girl has been freed on bail on strict terms and is due back in court next month.

Unemployed Shaydin Roger Baker, 20, faced one charge each of sexual violation by rape, and unlawfully being in an enclosed yard when he briefly appeared in Tauranga District Court yesterday.

The offences are alleged to have occurred in Tauranga between September 13 and 14.

Baker was granted bail by Judge Peter Rollo on strict conditions, which include a ban on him having any contact with the complainant and going within 500m of the street where it is alleged the rape happened.

Baker, who is yet to plead to the charges, is due back in court on October 5.
