Dame Lynley Dodd got to watch her creation Hairy MacLary on stage as part of the Royal visit from Prince Charles and wife Camilla to New Zealand.

Dame Lynley was among those meeting their Royal Highnesses, as well as selected children from the audience who were presented with a poster from the Duchess.

The show was performed at the Bruce Mason Theatre Centre in Takapuna.

The Duchess of Cornwall named Hairy Maclary From Donaldson's Dairy as one of her favourite books, and has chosen it as one she pledged to share with others this year. Dame Lynley was warmly greeted by the couple and said the event was "unreal".

She said the prince had told her he had written a book before and asked if she was working on anything at the moment. "I said 'I should be but I'm not'."
