Hamilton-based athlete Kym O'Grady has been named the Special Olympics New Zealand Board of Directors' new athlete representative.

More than 6000 athletes train with the organisation in 13 Olympic-style sports and compete locally, nationally, and internationally.

Kym has trained with Special Olympics New Zealand in equestrian and aquatics since 2005. She represented New Zealand at the 2007 Special Olympics Summer Games in Shanghai, China, in equestrian.
