A Tauranga woman charged with attempting to hold up Arataki Superette with a 10-inch dagger at the end of March is now in custody.

Unemployed Kairua woman, Cheyanne McCausland ,22, appeared in Tauranga District Court this morning charged with assault with intent to commit robbery and was remanded in custody after police opposed bail.

Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier said the woman presented herself at Papamoa Police Station last night.

"She came to police as a result of our investigation. It's a good result," he said.

The March 31 robbery attempt saw the woman allegedly pull a 10-inch knife on 59-year-old shop assistant Sue Savage. The mid-afternoon attack was the third at Arataki Superette on Oceanbeach Rd in the past four years.

Ms Savage was alone in the store about 3pm when a woman brandished a "dagger" at her, demanding cash and cigarettes.

But the woman was foiled when Ms Savage sounded the panic alarm, scaring her off.

McCausland will reappear in court on Monday for a bail application.
