Job losses at city council fewer than planned
Thirty Tauranga City Council jobs will be lost as a result of a major organisational restructure.
Announced this afternoon, the final plan is less severe than last month's draft which proposed to cut 45 full-time equivilant (FTE) jobs.
However, an additional 32.3 FTE positions will be terminated when a document scanning project is completed in early 2014.
With a few additional jobs expected to be lost as a result of a recent review of Council Controlled Organisations, the total loss of staff will be 66 FTE positions by early 2014.
The final Council Organisation Review also has plans to create an Executive Advisor position, rather than the Chief Executive Advisory Unit originally proposed.
Chief Executive Leigh Auton said the outcome of the review is an organisation that has adjusted to the political and economic climate, is fit for purpose, and is now in a very strong position to move forward.
"I believe that this organisation review and the work that follows will result in staffing levels that are appropriate and designed to enable a continuation of current levels of service to the community."
