Organisers of Frocks on Bikes Tauranga were thrilled with the turn out for their first ride in the Bay, which took place at Mount Maunganui recently.

The inaugural ride, organised by Holly Hill, Roselle Entwistle and Charlotte Grant, journeyed from the Mount Maunganui Surf Club down Marine Parade to Oceanbeach Rd and back.

There were about 50 riders as well as a few men who supported the group. Attendees ranged from young to old riding a variety of bikes from step through and cruiser bikes to mountain and road bikes.

There were a few lovely retro frocks and bikes too.

As far as wearing a dress goes, Frocks on Bikes encourages people to bike in what they feel comfortable wearing and promotes stylish riding.

Response from the locals was positive, a lot of people cheered and waved from their cars, decks and the side of the road. Everyone appeared to enjoy the ride, ringing their bells to celebrate the occasion.

"We had a lot of women thank us for bringing Frocks to Tauranga," said Ms Entwistle.

The next Frocks on Bikes ride is scheduled for this Sunday, with a Valentine's Day theme visit www.frocksonbikes.org for details.
