Metservice has issued a heavy rain warning for the Bay of Plenty which may last through until Friday morning.

An active front over the Tasman Sea should move slowly eastwards across New Zealand today and tomorrow, preceded by a strong, very humid northeasterly flow.

The heavy rain warning also includes Mt Taranaki, Northland, north of Auckland, Coromandel and Tongariro National Park.
