Head-on collision near Te Puke

Two people were taken to hospital and traffic was banked up after a head-on collision on State Highway 2 near Te Puke.

Emergency services were called to a head-on crash on State Highway 2 near Collins Lane about 5.40pm yesterday.

Te Puke fire chief Glenn Williams said it was a head-on crash between a car and a utility vehicle.

He said there was only one occupant in each car and both were out of their vehicles by the time they arrived.

The driver of the ute had a couple of cuts to his nose but was walking around and appeared to be fine, he said.

Tauranga Senior Sergeant Carl Purcell said the two people received moderate injuries and were taken to hospital for assessment.
