Police nabbed a man with a warrant out for his arrest after a brief pursuit in Greerton.

Acting Senior Sergeant Steve Hindmarsh said police officers engaged in a short pursuit with a car that failed to stop about 11.15am yesterday.

The driver eventually stopped the car in Maleme St where the passenger ran away from police.

"As a result of that a dog tracked and found him," Mr Hindmarsh said.

He said the 23-year-old man was a "person of interest" to police and had a warrant for his arrest.

The man was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, receiving and theft.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Tauranga District Court today.

The 20-year-old female driver of the car was charged with failing to stop and refusing to provide a blood sample. She will appear in court at a later date.
