A major grant given to Tauranga RDA (Riding for Disabled) will help keep the initiative afloat for its riders.

The $20,800 Pub Charity grant will help cover costs incurred while the RDA delivers equestrian therapy sessions to disabled and at-risk individuals within the Tauranga community.

Tauranga RDA underwrites the rider fees of equestrian therapy sessions by paying more than 80 per cent of the cost in order to keep the service affordable to families.

Tauranga RDA Chief Executive Kat Macmillan said: "We are extremely grateful to Pub Charity as we are aware that any increase in fees would cause hardship to many of our riders."

Such grants from organisations and philanthropists has enabled Tauranga RDA to increase the numbers of people it provides therapy for - a rise over the last four years from 25 people a week to more 100 a week.
