Get inspired

Google garden safaris, and see what's happening in your neck of the woods over the next few weeks. Even very small towns often have garden rambles and it's a great way to refresh your eye and give you new ideas.

Best presentation

If you've just completed a major post-winter clean-up, set aside a few hours to tidy up. Gather prunings, clippings and weeds, dispose of plastic plant containers, and check that your entranceway presents a welcoming face to visitors.

Bag a bargain

Check out what's on offer in the specials bin at your local nurseries. Neglected plants will be slower to get going, but they should do well enough now that spring's here, provided you offer some TLC.

Stake and secure

If you've been planting new shrubs and trees, check for any movement at the base and firm them up and stake them if they need it.
