Gearbox Software has taken what is often a fickle genre, the role-playing shooter, and created not just a fantastic game but an objet d'art.
The success of its original sleeper hit, Borderlands, spurred it on to produce more of the same sci-fi/Western/steampunk action, and supersize it into a massive open world full to the brim with ludicrous enemies, endless weapon combinations and slapstick humour worthy of an Emmy-winning sitcom.
You will find yourself left for dead in the frozen tundra of Pandora as you begin your quest for revenge and redemption.
Expose the evil surrounding the Hyperion corporation and take on the perpetrator of a universe-wide deception - the nefarious Hyperion CEO, Handsome Jack.
A whole slew of new enemies are out there to kill you in Borderlands 2. Hulking, gorilla-like Bullymongs, predatory Stalkers and the Hyperion mechanical army are just some of the new enemies you will be facing off against on Pandora.
New strategies will need to be created for every fight, as enemies now interact and aid each other to ensure you don't get far in the world of Pandora.
There are four new character classes to choose from: Gunzerker (brute force), Siren (magic), Commando (firepower) and Assassin (stealth). Their abilities come to the fore when Borderlands 2 is played in its best mode - four-player co-op.
But the more of you who play, the more enemies the game throws at you, so don't expect an easy ride with your buddies - only the best teamwork will prevail.
