If Red Faction Armageddon was a food, it'd be a cheeseburger.

Quick and tasty, yet excessive consumption will leave you feeling a bit sick.

This latest chapter in the critically acclaimed Red Faction franchise is set in a bleak future where humans have colonised Mars but infighting, and the more-than occasional alien outbreak, have shattered any hopes of peace.

Graphically, the game is excellent. Set mainly underground, the developers have a great job in rendering a spooky setting where alien monsters can pop out at a moment's notice.

The gameplay is easy to pick up, but the best addition is the exceptional arsenal on offer.

A huge range of gun goodies are on offer, from standard rifles to an environment-tearing magnet gun - and a huge range of destructive goodness in between.

The single player is a basic affair, following standard "blow up everything" and/or "fix this" themes for the most part.

A notable downside is the lack of a competitive online option, but you can sign up to four of your buddies and tackle "infestation" mode together where you battle wave after wave of creepy-crawly alien vermin.

Although Red Faction Armageddon is a fun arcade-style shooter, a lack of variety and long-lasting appeal sink any hopes of this rising to any great heights.
