Judea church, Lifezone, is holding another action-packed Dad's Day gala on Sunday.

It follows the success of last year's event aimed at encouraging fathers and sons to enjoy doing bloke things together.

Lifezone event coordinator Carlene Murray says visitors are in for a real treat this year with local car enthusiast Rex Moyle displaying his award-winning 1957 two-door Chevrolet Bel Air sports coupé.

"Rex was recently awarded the People's Choice award at the Whangarei Speed Show and he also won Best Overall Car at the Beach Hop Warm Up Party 2010 in Waihi. The car is called Albino because of its ice-white leather interior and ice-white exterior.

"Other restored classic cars include a 1969 Mustang Coupé Deluxe, which is one of only 5000 made. And motorbike lovers can view bikes such as a 2007 Triumph Rocket 3," says Carlene.

The event is family oriented and fun. Energetic teens and dads can have a go at smashing a car with a sledge hammer or nail driving, or kids can try their hand at a coconut shy, ring tossing, slot car racing and sliding down the bouncy slide.

In addition, a skate park with assorted skate ramps will be set up for those wanting to bring their skate boards, and extreme sports clips will be playing on a big screen.

"Last year we operated our cafe and the $5 Big Breakfast proved popular, which we'll be doing again. Also available for sale will be tasty espresso coffee for only $3 and traditional sausage sizzle for $1.50," says Carlene.

Dad's Day is a great way for fathers to spend some time with their child in a non-threatening environment.

"There won't be a church service. Instead, we want to continue connecting with our community by offering a free event that should appeal to everyone - Mum too. Men play an important role in their kid's life. We want to help recognise and celebrate our men."

The event will be held rain or shine from 9.30am to 12 noon, at Lifezone Church, 19 Amber Crescent, Judea, Tauranga.
