Children from three Tauranga primary schools got to take part in a day designed to help coach aspiring young leaders to step up and take control.

The Young Leaders Day involved children from Maungatapu School, Selwyn Ridge Primary School and Welcome Bay School in a leadership development course involving speakers such as motivational speaker Tony Christiansen, Mayor Stuart Crosby and Tauranga Boys' College head boy Hautapu Baker.

A total of 60 students, mostly Year 5, took part as a way each school could maximise leadership development by incorporating some of the ideas and messages promoted on the day, into school programmes in 2013.
