The Mount Maunganui Fire Brigade was called to an industrial area near Tauranga Airport after a forklift caught alight in a warehouse yesterday.

Mount Maunganui station officer Peter Clark said they were called to a warehouse on Jean Batten Drive about 1pm and found a small forklift on fire.

The Mount Maunganui and Tauranga brigades attended and the fire was quickly extinguished.

"The forklift was parked up and hadn't been used for a little while and must have had some electrical fault or something but we're investigating it,'' he said.

Mr Clark said the motor was badly burnt and a significant amount of smoke had filled the warehouse.
