Foodbank gets $2000 donation

A whopping $2000 donation has been received by the Tauranga Community Foodbank following the annual police golf fundraiser.

It is the biggest single donation the foodbank has received this year.

The money was raised when 170 local police and members of the community took to the green in the Tauranga Police Golf Club 18th annual charity golf tournament at Omanu Golf Course.

Detective Sergeant Pete Blackwell said Friday's event raised more than $4500 for two charities - the Tauranga Community Foodbank and Victim Support Tauranga. The remaining amount was donated to the Omanu Junior Golf Club.

"This is the first time we've donated to the foodbank in this tournament's 18-year history. Each year we donate to various local causes and this year we decided to give $2000 of the funds to the foodbank."

"Through the Bay of Plenty Times Christmas Appeal and other media, it's highlighted the importance of what the foodbank does," Mr Blackwell said.

"They are very, very worthy recipients and we are very happy they are one of this year's donors."
