A can of food is your ticket to a great night out at the movies, with the Wattie's Cans Film Festival back for its 19th year.

That's the special offer being made at 40 cinemas around the country  _ including movie outlets in the Western Bay.

The local cinema's taking part in the November 7 event will not be confirmed until early September.

The Wattie's Cans Film Festival helps provide food cans to the Salvation Army to stock up foodbanks and help those in need during the busy Christmas period.

On Wednesday, November 7, Kiwis around the country can visit their local participating movie theatre and swap a can for a movie ticket.

Wattie's will then match the number of cans donated with one of their own cans, and all cans will be donated to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.

Last year more than 45,300 cans were donated. This year Wattie's are hoping to collect and donate more.
