Firefighters to the rescue

Oil came to the rescue for volunteer firefighters who were called to assist a young boy who got his thumb stuck in a toothbrush holder.

Papamoa Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to Doncaster Dr at 4.15pm yesterday to help remove the boy's thumb from the toothbrush holder.

A Northern Communications Fire spokesperson said firefighters used oil to lubricate the boy's thumb, which then was able to be removed from the toothbrush holder.

The seven-year-old was not injured.
