Fire at Rotorua shops

Firefighters are at the scene of a roof fire at the St Andrews shops at the corner of Otonga and Old Taupo Rds in Rotorua.

Senior station officer Jim Prescott said they were called to the fire at 11am.

Two engines attended where they found a fire in the roof above the Indian Star takeaways and Springfield Liquor.

The fire has been extinguished but firefighters and unison staff reman at the scene.

Otonga rd was down to one lane.

Nobody was injured in the fire.

Mr Prescott said it appeared the fire started in leaf litter in the guttering of the roof in between the takeaway and liquor stores.

Investigations were underway as to the source of ignition.
