Eye health professionals walk for blind Kiwis

Last Saturday, the health professionals from Park Street Eye Clinic and their staff put on their tramping boots to walk the 18 kilometres from Park Street Tauranga to the Mount, around the Mount and back again.

They were raising money for the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind's new digital library as part of a national walking event for eye professionals.

The event will help fund the RNZFB B- Speak campaign, set up to ensure that blind and partially sighted people have the same opportunity to access reading material as anyone else.

In order that the RNZFB continues to serve the needs of its members, the library infrastructure has been fully converted from an analogue to a digital service and all library members now have new digital players.

With less than 7,000 audio books for 4000 plus members, thousands more titles are desperately needed to meet demand.

Every kilometre walked by Park Street Eye Clinic staff helped to raise valuable funds to future proof the RNZFB's digital library for generations to come.
