The Mount Hot Pools were closed yesterday due to an electrical fault.

A Tauranga City Council spokeswoman said it was hoped the pools would be able to be opened today, but there was no certainty as to how long the repair work would take.

She said contractors had been working on isolating and repairing the fault and until they knew exactly what the problem was, it would be difficult to provide any more detailed information.

The Mount Hot Pools were also closed over Anniversary Weekend due to an electrical fault.

The council spokeswoman said the fault that caused the closure of the pools over Anniversary Weekend was a cable that ran from the pump to the bore. "The cable had an expected life of six years but failed after three years - something that couldn't have been predicted," the spokeswoman said.

The pipes and machinery at the pools were upgraded in late 2011 after complaints about the pressure of jets and the fluctuating temperature of the water.
