An elderly woman was taken to Tauranga Hospital after losing control of her car and crashing into a parked car.

St John and police were called to the crash outside Central MedHealth on Devonport Rd about noon today.

Police Senior Constable Gavin Bennett said the 75-year-old woman was attempting to reverse out of a car park when she accelerated too hard.

She shot across the road, mounted the curb on the far side of the road and made it back onto the road before crashing into a parked car.

She was assessed by staff at the medical centre and had bruising on her chest.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance for further assessment.
