Trust is a rare and precious commodity in the world of politics.

With power being the ultimate political aphrodisiac, trust becomes something that can be bought and sold.

The corridors of power in the United States must run fast with intrigue.

And with a presidential election in the Us later this year, there could be no better time to get a taste of that intrigue than with Ides of March.

Stephen Meyers (Ryan Gosling) is a young political star working in the team who hopes to win the Democratic presidential nomination for Governor Mike Morris (George Clooney).

Meyer knows how the game is played and is good at it.

But when he makes the mistake of meeting with Tom Duffy (Paul Giamatti), the man running the campaign of Morris' opponent, his career goes into a tailspin.

Complicating matters is his relationship with a young intern in the campaign team - Molly Stearns (Evan Rachel Wood) who is keeping a powerful secret.

Meyers thinks he knows it all but doesn't realise what a mistake he has made and how ruthlessly he will be dealt with.

However, he does know that information is power.

What he knows might be enough to save his skin and destroy his enemies.

This is political intrigue at the highest level.

It is gripping stuff and gives us mere mortals a telling insight into how the game is played.
