A drunk teenager crashed his car into a wall in Welcome Bay before trying to hide from police.

Acting Senior Sergeant Wayne Hunter, heading the Western Bay of Plenty road policing team, said police were called to the intersection of Victory St and Achilles Crescent about 9.15pm yesterday.

The driver crashed into the wall and tried to drive off but he was stopped by police after members of the public pointed officers in the right direction, he said.

The three teenagers were uninjured in the crash.
