A woman was injured after her car rolled on State Highway 36, between Tauranga and Rotorua.

The woman was travelling through the Mangorewa Gorge about 9.45am yesterday when she lost control as a result of a diesel spill.

Western Bay road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said the car spun out and struck a bank before overturning.

The woman was taken to Tauranga Hospital with possible back and hand injuries.
