A woman has been airlifted to hospital after being was knocked off her bicycle in Whangamata's Port Rd - just outside the BNZ Bank which was targeted by an axe-wielding man last week.

She was hit by a reversing vehicle about 10.50am.

The woman was airlifted to hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

No further details are known at this stage.
