Cursing teens fall foul of top cop

Young people sitting in the City Focus using foul language got more than they bargained for when the city's top cop walked past.

Inspector Bruce Horne said he was going from one appointment to the next yesterday morning and heard the youngsters using bad language.

"There was a bunch of kids making a nuisance of themselves on the corner of Hinemoa and Tutanekai Sts. I spoke to them about it and told them it wasn't acceptable behaviour in a public place. They weren't very responsive to being told that and when they continued to speak in that way, they were arrested."

Mr Horne said one of the offenders ran off before he could take him in.

"It was unfortunate I was on my own."

Mr Horne said that teen, once caught, would be arrested for using offensive language and escaping custody.

The other teen was arrested for using offensive language.

"Kids need to know it's not all about them.

"We have received the message from the public that people do find that very distressing.

"In a tourist town like Rotorua, people should be able to come into town and go about their business without that sort of nonsense."
