Excitement for T20 cricket has arrived in Rotorua File

The excitement of T20 cricket has arrived in Rotorua, with local reserve grade cricket teams starting their quick-fire competition.

After a successful 40-over season, which saw Rotorua Boys' High School lift the trophy, a T20 competition will now start at Boord Park tomorrow.

Central, Geyser, Indians and Wanderers clubs will take part.

Each club will play two games tomorrow, with fresh tactics coming into play for the adjusted 20-over matches.

Indians Cricket Club team manager Shonit Shandre said his team was excited about the new competition, with players practising most nights at Waiariki Institute of Technology.

"They are practising hard, like every day. We have got two or three big hitters and six or seven batters."

He said they had not talked tactics too much but were confident they would not become over eager and collapse.

Shandre said it was good for local cricket, with T20 cricket competitions still relatively new in Rotorua.

Draw for tomorrow:

12:30pm - Central v Wanderers, Boord Park 1; Geyser v Indians, Boord Park 3.

3:30pm - Indians v Central, Boord Park 1; Wanderers v Geyser, Boord Park 3.
