Western Bay police vehicles were involved in 18 crashes last year, generating a $50,000 repair bill and leaving one officer facing a charge of careless use of a motor vehicle.
The cause and who was to blame for the two most serious crashes, which occurred within a week of each other in December, are still being investigated.
On December 20 two police cars collided on Cameron Rd, near 18th Ave in central Tauranga about 1.15am. Two police officers were left with bruising and concussion after one of the cars came off the road and went down a bank, landing on top of a staff member's vehicle at Pathlab Bay of Plenty. All three vehicles were seriously damaged.
