UPDATED: A woman was flown to Tauranga Hospital after being crushed by a cow this afternoon.

The TrustPower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called to a Pongakawa farm about 2.30pm.

Te Puke St John operations team manager Simon Campbell said a cow landed on a 53-year-old woman while they were loading the animals on or off of a truck.

``The accident was caused when a cow jumped over a rail on a truck they were loading and landed on top of
her.''

She had moderate to serious neck injuries and minor head and leg injuries.

The Pukehina Fire Service and Te Puke St John responded to the initial call about 2pm.
