Police searching for missing man Shaun Hogarth today located clothing belonging to one of the three men who made it to shore after their boat capsized in Tauranga Harbour.

The 23-year-old hasn't been seen since the boat the four men were in was swamped by heavy seas on Tuesday night.

Police are also still trying to locate 22-year-old Liam Kane who made it to shore but then disappeared, and are keen to hear from anyone who might know where he is.

Police confirm the men appear to have been fishing at the time of the capsize as they had borrowed fishing rods and purchased bait for the trip. It does not appear that they were wearing lifejackets.

Police are assessing the search and rescue operation to date and will release further information regarding the progress of the search tomorrow morning.
