Clampers to adopt code

File

A number of parking and security companies have signed up to the government-backed voluntary code of conduct on wheel clamping.

Consumer Affairs Minister Simon Bridges said Friday Comprise Group, Egmont Security, Tournament Parking, Valley Parking and Wilson Parking had signed up to the code setting out requirements, including clear signage and a cap on clamping fees.

It also details rules for when clamping can be carried out.

The NZ Herald earlier this year ran a series of articles on wheel clamping, with many readers accusing clampers of intimidation and abuse.

A spokeswoman for Mr Bridges said the code was an open document and other companies were welcome to sign up.

The code comes into effect on October 1.
