New Zealanders are encouraged to send a festive message to the more than 240 Defence Force personnel serving overseas on Christmas Day. This is a smaller number than previous years with the recent mission drawdown in Timor-Leste. This year will also be the last Christmas New Zealand has a large deployment in Afghanistan.

Messages can be left at www.nzdf.mil.nz/christmas before December 18.
