Two people face charges after several native trees were unlawfully cut down on a Tauranga City Council reserve.

The trees, including pohutukawa and rimu, were cut from an area on the western side of Waikareao Estuary in late May.

The charges, which remain unknown, were the result of a full investigation by council staff.

Any further details will not be released by the council until a court date has been set for the two people, expected in the near future.
