CCTV footage obtained by the police could hold the key to identifying the man who attempted to abduct a young school girl this week.

The young girl was scootering from school to her father's work in the industrial estate, not far up the road, when the incident happened just after 3pm on Tuesday.

She was travelling along Te Okuroa Dr, off Parton Rd, when a dark coloured vehicle drove up and parked beside her. The driver then tried to entice her into his car.

Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier said the 8-year-old Papamoa School student had been interviewed by specialist child interviewers and a formal complaint had been laid.

"We're looking at what happened and we are looking at some CCTV footage we've obtained."

Mr Brazier said the footage came from a business premises near where the incident took place.

"I understand that the footage should be able to assist us with the make, model and colour of the vehicle. I don't know if it will be good enough to get a registration from.

"The man was described as having dark or tanned skin, a short greying goatee and short grey or white hair. He was driving a four door vehicle similar to a hatchback and dark in colour.

If anyone saw the incident or can offer any more information, please contact Papamoa police on 5722440.
