Cause of toilet fire not clear

Lynda Feringa

Firefighters broke into a locked house to put out a small fire which started in the toilet last night.

Greerton station officer Paul van Kol said firefighters were called to a house on Williams Rd North in Pyes Pa about 8.50pm.

He said no one was home at the time so firefighters broke into the smoke logged house to put the fire out.

Tauranga fire safety officer Ken McKeagg was called to investigate the cause of the blaze.

He said the fire was contained to about 2 square metres and damage was fairly minimal.

Mr McKeagg said it was not clear what the cause of the fire was.

He was continuing the investigation.
