Catch the action at Baypark Speedway tomorrow night when cars and caravans race around the track in the annual Caravan Derby.

Classic Hits breakfast show hosts Will Johnston and Bridget Hastie skidded around the track ahead of tomorrow night's novelty race, which will see teams race against one another in a bid to be first over the line.

But making it over the line isn't all about speed, said Baypark Speedway manager Roger Bailey, because the aim of the derby is to block, tap and use strategy to beat your opponent.

"So far we've got 22 cars set to race on Saturday night, coming from Tokoroa, Rotorua, Te Puke and many from around the Bay. It's the first of our novelty races and we're looking forward to an action-packed evening."

The three round series will feature one caravan derby "which is always a huge hit with the public," Mr Bailey said.

The Derby Team Challenge will see teams of friends, family or workmates get behind the wheel of a previously loved everyday vehicle. To take part in rounds two or three, contact Baypark Speedway. By Genevieve Helliwell
