Teen admits involvement in arson at The Lakes

A Greerton teenager has admitted to being an accessory after the fact to arson after a deliberately lit fire gutted an empty farmhouse at the far end of The Lakes subdivision.

Brad O'Keefe, 17, who pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to arson in Tauranga District Court this morning was further remanded on bail pending sentencing on December 3.

O'Keefe will also been sentenced in relation to an unrelated burglary charge on that day which he had earlier pleaded guilty to.

His associate Benjamin David Harris, 18, from Welcome Bay who pleaded guilty to one charges of arson and burglary on September 4 is due to be sentenced on Friday.

The arson occurred on the evening of August 18-19 at a property near the intersection of Kennedy Rd and Takitumu Drive owned by The Lakes 2012, and $60,000 reparation has been sought.
