Brendan Horan shows up for work

Former New Zealand First list MP Brendan Horan has turned up at Parliament this morning for work, following his expulsion yesterday from the New Zealand First caucus and party.

He attended a closed session of the Maori Affairs select committee at 9am.

Mr Horan has been in talks with the Clerk of Parliament and Speaker Lockwood Smith.

It is thought he will be discussing seating arrangements in the House and issues such as office arrangements, staffing and funding.

Questions in the House and speaking slots in some debates are awarded on the basis of proportionality, and New Zealand First can expect to lose some of its entitlements. Taxpayer funding for the party will also be affected.

Mr Horan has been absent for the past 10 days under the advice of his former leader Winston Peters, after claims Mr Horan owed money to his mother's estate.

Mr Peters has called for him to resign from Parliament altogether, but Mr Horan has vowed to stay on.
