Boy needed help from firefighters

Firefighters and ambulance staff were called to Maketu School to remove a washer which had become stuck on a 9-year-old boy's finger.

Maketu fire chief Shane Beech said the fire service was called to the school about 2.20pm yesterday.

He said the firefighters used their ringcutter tool to remove the washer.

Mr Beech said he had used the tool on a number of occasions but mainly on rings rather than washers.
