A local boy was taken to Tauranga Hospital after he knocked his head during a rugby game today.

The boy, from Katikati Intermediate, knocked his head while playing at the Greerton Marist Rugby Club during the NZCT AIMS GAMES Tournament today.

Emergency staff at the scene checked the boy.

A St John spokesperson said the boy had a minor head injury.

"He wasn't knocked out, he was just a bit confused."

Competition organisers said the accident was minor and the boy walked off the field before he was treated by St John at the scene.

The boy was put in a neck brace "for precautionary measures" , organisers said.

The boy was taken to Tauranga Hospital to be checked over.

First aid staff are at the rugby ground and other AIMS GAMES venues during the tournament week.
