Bay of Plenty Centre Mixed 2x4x2 Pairs tournament was played over Anniversary Weekend with 54 teams entered for the qualifying rounds at Rotorua Gardens and Ngongataha on Saturday.

Twenty nine teams then progressed to post-section play at Ngongotaha.

The tournament featured some very close matches leading up to the semifinals, which were played on Monday.

Melva Clarke (skip) and Robbie Aitken of Gate Pa won a very tight match against Robyn Matthews-Hunt (skip) and Richard Lavis of Tauranga South 15-11. In the other semifinal, the composite team of Dean Worrall (skip, Mount Maunganui) and Raewyn Willis (Omanu) proved too strong for the Rotorua-based composite team of Stu Robertson (skip, Rotorua) and Dale Hall (Arawa), winning 16-6.

In the final, Raewyn Willis' consistency proved to be the difference between the two teams as Worrall and Willis took the title 16-9 over Clarke and Aitken.

It was Willis' fifth title which qualifies her for a Bowls Bay of Plenty Gold Star.

It is certainly proving to be a good season for her, after she skipped a composite triples team to victory in the Trusts New Zealand Open last November.
