A media appeal in relation to a man found dead in Tauranga Harbour on Saturday has resulted in him being identified.

Police can now confirm the body is that of a 29-year-old Tauranga man. Work is underway to ensure all next of kin are aware and his name will not be released until that process is complete.

A post mortem examination will be a carried out later today to establish how the man died. It is too early to say if the death is suspicious.
