The motorcyclist involved in a crash on State Highway 2 at Apata yesterday is in a stable condition in Tauranga Hospital.

The 42-year-old man suffered a broken leg and was admitted to the orthopaedic ward after his motorcycle was in collision with a car shortly before 8am at the intersection with Apata Station Rd.

Peak-hour traffic came to a stop while St John staff treated the motorcyclist.

Tauranga Police Sergeant Wayne Hunter said traffic took more than an hour to clear and diversions were put in place.

Mr Hunter said the driver of the car did not appear to have been injured.
