Bay police search for escaped prisoner
Police are looking for an escaped prisoner who stole a Department of Corrections vehicle this morning about 11.15am.
Jamie Paamu Hughes, 29, escaped from Tongariro Rangipo Prison in a 2005 Toyota Landcruiser light bus coloured white. The registration is CPU985. It has a large grey speaker mounted on the roof of the vehicle.
Hughes is describes as male Maori, 29 years of age, 160 cm tall, thin build.
When last seen Hughes was wearing a checkered shirt and jeans. He has a tattoo on the right side of his neck and a #1 shaved haircut.
Police said Hughes should not be approached. Anyone who spots Hughes or the van is urged to call 111.
