Bashed woman airlifted to hospital

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after she was seriously assaulted.

The 51-year-old woman from Te Kaha was flown to Whakatane Hospital by the TrustPower TECT Rescue Helicopter late last night.

Helicopter pilot Liam Brettkelly said the woman had been a victim of an assault and had suffered serious injuries to her face.

The woman is today recovering in Whakatane Hospital.
