A 16-year-old youth jointly charged with arson in relation to a fire which gutted an empty farmhouse at the far end of The Lakes subdivision on August 19 has been granted bail.

The youth, who has automatic name suppression and who briefly appeared in Tauranga Youth Court yesterday, also faced a joint charge of burglary which stems from an alleged break-in at Te Puke Liquor Store.

The teen is yet to enter a plea.

He is due back in court on September 17, while one of two alleged co-offenders, Welcome Bay teen Benjamin David Harris, 18, is due to appear in Tauranga District Court today.

The third member of the trio is due in Tauranga District Court on September 21.
