Baby Nevaeh set to be a cover girl

Nevaeh Tahau has won The Daily Post's Baby of the Year competition.
Nevaeh Tahau has won The Daily Post's Baby of the Year competition.

She's not even 1 yet but Nevaeh Tahau is already about to become a cover girl.

The 2-month-old will make the front cover of The Daily Post 2012 Baby Book for winning the Baby of the Year competition.

A total of 28 children entered the competition and The Daily Post classified sales consultant Rachel Glasgow said more than 2000 votes were cast. The book will come out on February 27.

Nevaeh received 263 votes, followed by Kingston Green, who received 251 votes, in second place and Stellen Flay-Martin in third with 233 votes.

The winning baby's mother, Bonny Edwards, said all the children entered in the competition were cute but she was quietly confident her daughter would take it out.

She was excited that Nevaeh, born on December 13, would be on the cover of the baby book especially because many of her friends and family bought The Daily Post newspaper.

"I thought she had a good chance," Miss Edwards said.

"But I thought all the babies were cute as well."

It was the first baby competition Miss Edwards had entered her daughter in but said she would consider entering her in more as they came up.

"I think it's awesome," she said.

Rotorua residents had until last Friday at 5pm to vote for the baby they wanted to win the Baby of the Year competition. Members of the public were able to vote up to six times for the baby they wanted to win the competition.

The photographs of the babies are all displayed in the front window of The Daily Post office in Hinemoa St.

The baby book will be inserted into Wednesday's paper next week and will be available at The Daily Post's front counter.
